PHOENIX — Authorities say a Phoenix man is accused of forcing a young girl with special needs to burn her hands on a stove as a form of punishment.

Phoenix police say 59-year-old Timothy George Auger is being held on suspicion of child abuse.

They say the girl sustained first and second-degree burns to her hands that were in different stages of healing, indicating she had been burned multiple times.

Police believe the latest instance occurred last month.

The girl told investigators during a forensic interview that when she was bad, she had to touch the stove and Auger allegedly grabbed her wrist and pressed her hand onto the stove.

Auger was arrested Thursday. His bond was set Friday at $10,000 and he doesn't have a lawyer yet.
