DES MOINES, Iowa — A 70,000-square-foot project on an abandoned city lot near the Iowa Cub's ballpark in Des Moines is close to completion and will offer everything from a gym to restaurants.

Des Moines television station KCCI reports (http://bit.ly/1G5SHOA ) that the $10 million development on the corner of MLK Jr. Parkway and Southwest Third Street will fill a spot that had held empty, crumbling warehouses for three decades.

Rich Eychaner, of Eychaner Properties, said crews are more than halfway done with the project overlooking Principal Park. He expects businesses to open around August.

Those include a 24-hour Anytime Fitness and a rooftop patio, as well as seven restaurants.
