GREENVILLE, South Carolina — A man who investigators say was the ringleader of a mob that beat a 20-year-old to death after a birthday party has been sentenced.

Authorities tell local media outlets that 20-year-old Ronald Brown was sentenced Tuesday to 45 years in prison after pleading guilty to first-degree assault and battery by a mob.

Twenty-year-old De'Bron Aldrick Harrison was found beaten outside a church in April 2013.

Prosecutors said the attack appeared to be spontaneous. Police say Harrison had been at a birthday party with friends when a fight occurred.

A year ago, 11 juveniles accepted a plea deal in the death.
