Minnesota signs 3 to national letters of intent, including local star Amir Coffey

MINNEAPOLIS — The Minnesota Golden Gophers have announced their three-player recruiting class, which includes local standout Amir Coffey.

The Gophers say Coffey, Rochester forward Michael Hurt and Little Rock forward Eric Curry signed their national letters of intent on Wednesday. Coffey is a 6-foot-7 guard from Twin Cities powerhouse Hopkins High School whose father Richard played for the Gophers from 1986-90.

Coffey is widely viewed as one of the top 50 prospects in the country, giving coach Richard Pitino the first big-time recruit in his three-year tenure.

Hurt is a 6-foot-6 swingman who averaged 20.3 points for John Marshall High School last season.

The 6-foot-8 Curry averaged 15.4 points and 8.6 rebounds as a junior for Southwest Christian High School in Little Rock.
