Suspected driver dies 8 days after fatal hit-and-run; was found unconscious following crash

NEWMARKET, New Hampshire — New Hampshire State Police say a Newmarket man has died eight days after his car struck and killed a 79-year-old pedestrian.

Police said Tuesday they suspect that 44-year-old Peter Wallace was driving his black Volvo when it struck Charles Dearborn on Thursday, June 25. Dearborn died at the scene.

About 90 minutes after the crash, police responded to a medical call at Wallace's home where they found him unconscious on his front lawn. Wallace was hospitalized and placed on life support. In a press release Tuesday, state police said he died Friday at the hospital.

Investigators say the car was operating erratically prior to hitting Dearborn.
