WOODSTOCK, Illinois — A federal parolee suspected in a stabbing death earlier this month in west-central Illinois has been arrested in McHenry County, to the northwest of Chicago.

Twenty-nine-year-old Christopher L. Croom of Chicago was arrested Monday in Lake in the Hills with the help of U.S. Marshals.

He is wanted in the death of a man who was stabbed in Galesburg on Aug. 13 and died of his injuries four days later.

McHenry County Undersheriff Andrew Zinke tells The (Crystal Lake) Northwest Herald (http://bit.ly/1p6Ow6C ) that when bystanders tried to help the victim, the assailant pulled a gun on them.

The newspaper reports that a handgun was recovered during Monday's arrest.

Croom was jailed in McHenry County pending extradition.

His bond on the murder charge is $1 million.
