JACKSON, Mississippi — The attorney for fired Canton Public School District superintendent Ike Haynes says a public hearing has been scheduled for her client.
Attorney Lisa Ross tells The Clarion-Ledger (http://on.thec-l.com/1jhRJVA ) the hearing is set for Dec. 17 and Dec. 18. The Canton Public School District fired Haynes last month after having hired him in July 2014.
In a statement, the district's spokeswoman Beverly Luckett says Haynes' termination is a personnel matter that the district's board of trustees can't discuss.
However, Luckett says after reviewing recent test scores, the trustees decided to seek a new superintendent.
Ross says she doesn't know why her client was fired. She says the district's test scores have been poor for years and Haynes shouldn't have been expected to fix the low test scores in less than 18 months.
