DENVER — Two people, including a man accused of running a fraudulent breast cancer charity, have been charged with stealing more than $1 million in a charity fraud case involving the sale of donated mattresses.

The Adams County District Attorney's Office said Tuesday that 35-year-old Adam Shryock and 57-year-old Genevieve Cruz have been charged with charitable fraud and theft.

Prosecutors say the two collected mattresses returned under a warranty program, claiming they were being donated to Ecumenical Refugee and Immigration Services and distributed to refugees. The Denver Post reports (http://goo.gl/jaUVZV ) Shryock and Cruz, the organization's donation coordinator, are accused of selling most of the mattresses for profit.

A representative for the organization didn't return a voicemail seeking comment.

Shryock founded Boobies Rock!, a breast cancer charity that was the target of a 2013 lawsuit from the Colorado Attorney General's Office.
