Sandoval sprained his left ankle in the fifth inning. Sandoval, who entered with six consecutive multihit games and a nine-game hitting streak, hurt the ankle on a throwing error. It was Sandoval's team-high 10th error.

Swihart sprained his left foot on a slide into third base in the fifth inning and was pinch hit for in the sixth inning.

The Red Sox also lost designated hitter David Ortiz, who was ejected in the seventh by plate umpire Bruce Dreckman.
