Coast Guard finds overdue kayaker off Swan's Island

SWAN'S ISLAND, Maine — The Coast Guard says a kayaker who went missing near Swan's Island has been found.

Authorities say 18-year-old Jackson Day was last seen leaving the island in an 8-foot kayak. The Coast Guard's South Portland command center received a call from Day's mother Tuesday night informing them that he was overdue.

Officials say he was found Wednesday morning after he spent the night on an island because of bad weather. A Coast Guard spokesman says Day is a summer resident of the island.
