MONROE, Louisiana — Monroe businessman Dean Hart Jr. has filed a motion to waive a jury trial on eight counts related to a December standoff.

Hart was indicted in April on two counts of aggravated assault with a firearm on an officer, one count of unlawful use of a laser on a police officer, resisting an officer by force, second-degree kidnapping, forcible rape, domestic abuse battery and possession of cocaine.

Hart is accused of having kidnapped and raped his wife and holding her inside their Monroe home. He kept Monroe police at bay for more than seven hours before being arrested.

The News Star reports (http://tnsne.ws/1pSiEJh ) a judge will hear Hart's motion during a pre-trial hearing Tuesday in 4th Judicial District Court.

Hart's trial date is set for Oct. 13.
