FLAGSTAFF, Arizona — Heavy rain flooded 30 homes in east Flagstaff, displacing nine families.

The National Weather Service in Bellemont west of Flagstaff reported up to 2 inches of rain and quarter-inch hail late Tuesday, and the Arizona Daily Sun (http://bit.ly/U3EhbB ) reports that some streets were impassable because of debris.

City crews used sledgehammers to knock holes in a brick wall to release water in an adjacent drainage.

The Fire Department sent crews from all seven fire stations to work the flooding and recalled off-duty firefighters to respond to other emergency calls.
