FAYETTEVILLE, Arkansas — North Little Rock has its sights set on ending the West's streak of nine straight Class 7A state championships.

The Charging Wildcats (9-1) will take their first step into the West playoff gauntlet when they face Fort Smith Northside in the second round of the playoffs in War Memorial Stadium on Friday night.

Led by wide receiver KJ Hill, who has committed to play at Arkansas, North Little Rock has won eight straight games. Its only loss this season came against the only West team it faced, Fayetteville.

The Grizzlies (9-2), led by defensive end Daytrieon Dean, opened the season quickly but have cooled in recent weeks — including a sluggish 24-14 win over Little Rock Catholic last week.

If the Charging Wildcats are the ones to snap the West's dominance, this will likely be their first of three straight games against West teams.
