BLUEFIELD, West Virginia — A federal inmate in West Virginia has been sentenced to an additional year and three months in prison for possessing a weapon.

Federal prosecutors said Tuesday that 34-year-old Rico Joy was sentenced in federal court in Bluefield.

Joy admitted to having a shank, or homemade knife, in April at the Federal Correctional Institution at McDowell.

Prosecutors say the sentence will run consecutively to a 20-year sentence Joy is serving for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
