HAMPTON, Iowa — A 61-year-old man has pleaded not guilty to allegations that he shot to death his girlfriend in northern Iowa.

Ronald Rand, of Hampton, entered the plea Tuesday. His trial date hasn't been set.

Authorities say Rand shot 51-year-old Michelle Key at his home on Dec. 13.

The Mason City Globe Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/1mVvyGU ) that Rand testified at his hearing that he's lived in Hampton for 10 years and lived in Waterloo for six years before that.

Court records say Rand told officers he and Key were arguing before she was shot.
