Toddler missing from home found dead in neighbor's pool in southwest Florida

SARSOTA, Florida — A toddler who had been missing overnight in southwest Florida was found dead in a neighbor's pool.

The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office reports that Zackery Castro's parents had not seen him since Monday night and didn't know the child was not inside the house. They last checked on the 2-year-old around 10 p.m. A tricycle parked at the end of the driveway shows the boy may have ridden to the pool.

Neighbors called 911 Tuesday morning, saying they had found a child they didn't know floating in their pool. Deputies went door to door and found the child's mother several houses away.

Authorities are investigating but released no other details. Child welfare officials also responded to the scene.
