LINCOLN, Nebraska — A 24-year-old Nebraska man is recovering from serious injuries he received in an Afghanistan attack that killed three other Marines and a military dog.

The Lincoln Journal Star reports ( ) Billy Simmons is hospitalized in Afghanistan with a broken leg and jaw after Friday's attack. Simmons was part of a NATO International Security Assistance Force.

He will be transferred to a hospital in Germany and then a U.S. hospital to recover, but it's not clear when that will happen.

His fiancee Alisa Stuckert says that when they talked on the phone Simmons seemed more worried about retrieving gifts he's bought for Stuckert before he is flown out of the country.

Simmons was born in Alliance, graduated from a Grand Island high school and moved to Lincoln about five years ago.
