CHARLOTTE, North Carolina — Police in Charlotte say one person has been wounded after firing at officers who were trying to serve a warrant.

Multiple media outlets reported the shooting happened shortly before 9:30 p.m. Monday.

Police say two officers pulled into the parking lot of an apartment complex to serve warrants for burglaries and possession of a gun. Police say a male suspect came out of an apartment, saw the officers and fired several shots.

The officers returned fire and hit the suspect with three shots. He was taken to Carolinas Medical Center for treatment of his injuries. His name has not been released.

The officers were not hurt. They have been placed on administrative duties while the shooting is investigated.
