PORTLAND, Oregon — Police say a Portland woman injured in a storm-related traffic accident is expected to survive.

She was hurt and her son killed Thursday when a large tree fell on their car, which swerved and hit another tree,

The police said Friday it wasn't yet clear whether the death of 11-year-old Thomas William Graham was a result of the falling tree or of the crash. The state medical examiner's office is investigating the death.

The boy's mother, 50-year-old Susan Graham, was reported recovering from her injuries at a Portland hospital.

The death was one of two attributed to the wind storm on Thursday. A homeless man on a hike with his son on the Pacific Crest Trail near Mount Ashland died when a tree fell on his tent.
