CORTEZ, Colorado — Thirty-two bidders spent $4,269 to buy items previously owned by a former Montezuma County undersheriff who used taxpayer money to pay for personal items, including firearms.
The Cortez Journal reports (http://bit.ly/1yXx8up ) Tuesday's auction, which was called after Robin Cronk pleaded guilty to embezzlement and official misconduct, was over in about 10 minutes. Proceeds from the auction will go toward Cronk's court-ordered restitution of $7,415.
Cronk, who was sentenced to 30 days in jail, was accused of trying to sell some of the firearms by posting classified ads.
Among those who attended the auction were Sheriff Dennis Spruell and Undersheriff Lynda Carter.
