LOS ANGELES — A Los Angeles plastic surgeon has been found guilty of manslaughter for the death of a patient who received a lethal dose of drugs during liposuction.

Prosecutors said in a statement that 48-year-old former doctor Ehab Aly Mohamed was convicted Thursday of involuntary manslaughter with great bodily injury and elder abuse. He faces a maximum of five years in prison when he's sentenced next month.

A district attorney's statement says Mohamed used a lethal combination of lidocaine, fentanyl and oxycodone in a liposuction procedure that lasted more than 10 hours in 2010. Sixty-one-year-old Sharon Carpenter was killed.

A few months earlier in the elder abuse case, he performed another lengthy liposuction on a 77-year-old woman who lost consciousness and had ongoing health problems afterward.
