PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island — A 38-year-old man has been fatally shot overnight in Providence, shortly after another man was wounded by gunfire at a different location.

Police said a man was shot and wounded in the leg near the corner of Dean Street and Atwells Avenue at about 12:50 a.m. Saturday.

The second victim was found at around 1 a.m. Saturday on the corner of Ives and Trenton streets. Lt. Joseph Donnelly tells the Providence Journal (http://bit.ly/1O7qDha) that man was taken to Rhode Island Hospital where he later died. His death is the 12th homicide in Providence this year.

Donnelly says it's not immediately known if the shootings were related.
