Wrong-way driver in fatal South Florida crash didn't have valid driver's license

SUNRISE, Florida — Records show the driver of a car that collided with another vehicle while driving the wrong-way on the Sawgrass Expressway didn't have a valid driver's license.

The Florida Highway Patrol says the Wednesday morning crash killed 36-year-old Harold Wilson Martinez. Surveillance video taken by the Wrong Way Vehicle Detection Device captured his Hyundai Sonata entering the South Florida highway and heading north in the southbound lanes.

Spokesman Mark Wysocky says the crash left 56-year-old Cesar Gerardo Nunez in critical condition. A third driver, 18-year-old Nicholas Casssell wasn't seriously injured in the crash.

The Sun Sentinel (http://bit.ly/1KV8SBp ) reports Martinez's license was suspended several times since 2000. Records from the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles shows he'd been stopped for various infractions, including speeding.

An investigation continues.
