TALLAHASSEE, Florida — The city of Tallahassee is paying $475,000 to settle a case over the arrest of a woman who ended up with a broken bone in her face after an altercation with officers.
City commissioners voted Monday to settle the federal lawsuit filed by Christina and David West against the city and the Tallahassee Police Department.
Video from last year's arrest of Christina West showed officers slamming her into a police car before throwing her to the ground. West can be heard screaming in the video.
A city attorney acknowledged the video "was difficult for all of us to see" but noted that the incident prompted changes at the department including the hiring of a new police chief.
A grand jury ripped the Tallahassee police for how it handled the arrest.
