BOWLING GREEN, Ohio — An Ohio inmate who escaped from a low-level corrections facility near Toledo was back in custody Thursday after officers found him in the attic of a nearby apartment, authorities said.
Bowling Green police confirmed that 24-year-old Jhon Rosado was back in custody after he escaped from the NorthWest Community Corrections Center at about 8:15 p.m. Wednesday by climbing over a fence.
Police said Rosado was found in the attic of a Bowling Green apartment around 6:10 p.m. Thursday. The apartment was occupied by a woman who police say was the victim in the domestic violence crime for which Rosado had been incarcerated. Police said Rosado spoke to the woman on the phone Wednesday from the corrections center and told her he intended to escape.
Rosado, of Jacksonville, Florida, was sent to the center Monday by a Wood County judge to serve the first six months of a three-year sentence after pleading guilty to a domestic violence felony charge in July.
Inmates at the independently operated corrections center in Bowling Green receive counseling to address substance abuse and to manage their anger; they work on life skills and can seek a GED if they don't have a high school diploma, a county prosecutor said.
Authorities said Rosado was being taken to a hospital Thursday night for treatment of a foot injury he sustained during the escape. Rosado will be taken to the Wood County Jail after he is treated and is expected to be charged with escape, police said.
The woman at the apartment where Rosado was hiding also was being taken to the Wood County jail. Authorities say they expect she will be charged with harboring a fugitive.
The escape comes less than a week after Chardon High School shooter T.J. Lane and two other inmates briefly escaped from a state prison in Lima, about 80 miles south of Toledo. The trio scaled a fence in the recreation yard and climbed onto the roof of an entryway. All three were back in custody within several hours.
