MADISON, Wisconsin — A freshman Republican won't seek a second term in the Wisconsin Assembly this fall.

Assembly Speaker Robin Vos' office announced in a news release Tuesday afternoon that Rep. Dave Heaton won't run for re-election in November.

In a release from his campaign, Heaton said he has three children under the age of 7, and a second term in the Legislature "would not work" for his family and their needs. He says by not running, he is making the decision "that is best" for his family.

Heaton, of Wausau, serves on four committees, including Children and Families; Consumer Protection, Judiciary and Veterans and Military Affairs. He does not hold a committee chairmanship.

He also serves on a task force Vos created to improve urban education.
