MANSFIELD, Louisiana — A 15-year-old boy accused of stabbing his aunt to death will be tried as an adult.

DeSoto Parish District Attorney Gary Evans says the teenager was booked with first-degree murder and will face a grand jury within the next 30 days.

The Times reports (http://bit.ly/1fsSVDA ) the teen is accused of killing 36-year-old Yolanda Hunter while she was sleeping. Evans says the woman's nephew entered a room and stabbed her seven times in the front and back. Hunter managed to drive to her sister's home where she called 911, but succumbed to her injuries while being transported to a hospital.

Evans says Hunter was the teen's caretaker. What sparked the attack remains under investigation.

The teen is being held at the Ware Juvenile Youth Center in Coushatta.
