CANTON, Mississippi — Madison County Supervisor Ronny Lott has won the runoff against David Overby on Tuesday to be the next chancery clerk.

Complete, but unofficial, results show Lott got 52 percent of the vote to defeat Overby, the current chief financial officer for the city of Canton.

Lott will serve the one-year remaining in the term. Clerk Arthur Johnston stepped down last year after being appointed as clerk of the federal court for the Southern District of Mississippi. Cynthia Parker has been the interim chancery clerk since Johnston left.

The chancery clerk is the keeper of public land records, collector of delinquent real estate taxes, clerk of the chancery court, clerk of the board of supervisors, county treasurer and county auditor.
