HILTON HEAD ISLAND, South Carolina — The issue of beach tents has become a concern along South Carolina's south coast.
The Island Packet of Hilton Head reports (http://bit.ly/1PN607xo ) that some islanders say the beaches have become so crowded with tents and canopies that there's not much space left at high tide. There is concern that people who rent canopies don't take them down, leaving the job to town workers.
While some towns along South Carolina's Grand Strand have adopted ordinances in recent years regulating beach tents, there is currently no rule concerning tents and umbrellas on Hilton Head Island.
About 30 people attended a meeting of the finance and administrative committee of Hilton Head Town Council to discuss the issue Tuesday. The panel made no decision on the issue.
