LONDON — Dimitri Payet scored early in each half to give West Ham a 2-0 win over Newcastle in the Premier League on Monday as Steve McClaren endured another bad evening against Slaven Bilic.
Payet capped a sweeping move in the ninth minute by curling a shot into the top corner, and then doubled the lead in the 48th from a rebound after Victor Moses ran almost the length of the field before smashing a shot against crossbar.
It was West Ham's third win in five games, lifting it to fifth in the table on nine points. Newcastle slumped to last place on two points after Bilic got the better of McClaren again. This was their first competitive meeting since McClaren's stint as England coach ended following a 3-2 loss to Bilic's Croatia that cost the team a spot at the 2008 European Championship.
