PITTSBURGH — People in Pittsburgh are placing flowers and signs of encouragement at a makeshift memorial to two closely watched bald eagle eggs that failed to hatch.

The memorial sprung up after the eagles abandoned their nest for the season last Friday after the loss of their second egg.

One sign showed a picture of the birds below the words: "Next year, Mom and Dad. We love you!"

A round-the-clock video feed drew immense attention to the nest in the city's Hays section.

The stream racked up about 3.5 million views last year as three eggs successfully hatched, learned to fly and left the nest.

The eagles have been in Pittsburgh for three years. They're the first eagles to nest in the city in 150 years.
