PERRIS, California — A skydiver who was a member of the military died Wednesday in Southern California but there were no immediate details of the circumstances.
The Riverside County Fire Department said the skydiver was reported down shortly after 9 a.m. near state Route 74 in an unincorporated area near Perris.
The death was confirmed a short time later. An American flag was draped over the body as emergency responders stood nearby.
Fire Department spokeswoman Jody Hagemann said no more details were being released because the skydiver was in the military. She referred inquiries to a Naval Special Warfare office.
Messages seeking additional information were left for naval officials.
Skydive Perris declined to discuss the incident and referred questions to the military.
Perris is a major Southern California skydiving center.
In 2013, a Marine from Camp Pendleton and a trainer of military skydivers from Arizona died in separate skydiving accidents in Perris.
