DENVER — The Colorado Avalanche Information Center says avalanche season is already underway in Colorado, with several avalanches already reported across the state.
Avalanche forecaster Scott Toepfer says the first avalanche of the season was reported Oct. 13 in the Tenmile Range, just west of Breckenridge.
According to KMGH-TV (http://tinyurl.com/kc2gepy), an avalanche near Crested Butte left some hikers with bumps and scratches. Another avalanche was reported along Independence Pass.
Toepfer said some places have 3 feet of snow on the ground, while other areas of the state are enjoying 60 degree temperatures.
