Worcester man gets up to 7 years in prison after accidentally shooting 18-year-old friend

WORCESTER, Massachusetts — A 19-year-old Worcester man who accidentally shot his friend to death last year as they fooled around with a gun has been sentenced to up to seven years in prison.

Karega Adolphe was sentenced Monday after pleading guilty in Superior Court to manslaughter and firearms charges in connection with the May 2014, death of 18-year-old Joseph Safo-Agyare.

Prosecutors say the shooting happened after Adolphe, Safo-Agyare and a woman had attended several parties. Prosecutors say Adolphe unloaded ammunition from a revolver onto a bed at his home, then pointed the gun jokingly at Safo-Agyare's chest and squeezed the trigger. The gun went off and Safo-Agyare later died at the Hospital.

Adolphe apologized in a letter read in court and said Safo-Agyare was "like a brother" to him.
