ATLANTA — The National Weather Service has confirmed that two tornadoes hit the metro Atlanta area as a severe weather system pelted Georgia with heavy rain and high winds.

Meteorologist Ryan Willis said Tuesday that an EF1 tornado hit Marietta and an EF0 twister struck East Point.

Georgia Power reported that roughly 3,000 people were without service Tuesday afternoon. The utility's outage map showed outage clusters in metro Atlanta, north Georgia and coastal areas including Savannah and Brunswick.

An area of eastern Georgia including Athens, Augusta and Eatonton are under a tornado watch that's scheduled to expire Tuesday night. A flash flood watch covering part of north Georgia near Blairsville is in effect until early Wednesday morning.

There were no immediate reports of any injuries from the storms in Georgia.
