HELENA, Montana — A Canadian company with plans to develop a copper mine north of White Sulphur Springs has purchased 40 mining claims near its exploration site for about $100,000 in cash and stock.
Tintina Resources Inc. said Monday it purchased the Meagher County Claims from Wyoming Gold Mining Co.
The Independent Record reports (http://bit.ly/1mX9atm) the total acquisition is less than 800 acres because federal mining claims have a maximum size of 20 acres.
The claims are close to the Black Butte Copper Project, a proposed mine near Sheep Creek, a tributary to the Smith River.
Tintina's vice president for exploration Jerry Zieg says the company bought the claims to control mining activity in the area and hasn't explored whether they are viable. He said the company wanted to be sure a competitor didn't purchase the leases.
