HOUMA, Louisiana — State Department of Wildlife and Fisheries agents are accusing nine Terrebonne Parish men of harvesting oysters from an unapproved polluted area and taking them from a private lease without written permission.
The department says agents patrolling in Hell Hole Bayou on Thursday spotted several boats harvesting oysters, seizing boats and dredges while returning 115 sacks of oysters to the water.
Cited are four Houma men, 30-year-old Jolio Garcia, 28-year-old Omar Ever Aviles Gomez, 21-year-old Daniel Sanchez and 34-year-old Francisco Ruiz Maradiaga. Also cited are four Gray men, 25-year-old Hermilo Luria, 37-year-old Mario Lara, 30-year-old Carlos Gonzaga and 30-year-old Francisco Tenoria. Finally, 27-year-old Eduardo Alejo of Theriot was also cited.
The men face up to 240 days in jail and fines up to $1,900.
