WILMINGTON, Delaware — An elite Delaware prep school whose former headmaster is facing child pornography charges has hired a new leader.

Officials at Tower Hill School in Wilmington said Tuesday that Elizabeth Speers has been chosen as the school's first female headmaster.

Speers is currently head of school at the Ethel Walker School in Simsbury, Connecticut. She'll take over at Tower Hill on July 1.

Speers succeeds Christopher Wheeler, who's awaiting a judge's decision on whether he's guilty of 25 counts of dealing in child pornography.

Wheeler was arrested last year after police searched his home and office and found thousands of images of child pornography. The search was prompted by allegations of child sexual abuse for which Wheeler has not been charged.
