AUGUSTA, Maine — Thousands of Maine seniors will stay warm in donated coats this winter.

The Maine Association of Area Agencies on Aging said that residents donated more 1,139 gently-worn winter coats through November in their annual collection.

Many of the coats are going directly to seniors and some will be given to Goodwill.

The association collected just more than 900 coats last year.

It also received about $6,000 for its fuel assistance fund. LL Bean donated $5 dollars for every coat that was collected and Ben and Jerry's pitched in another $300.
