ROCKFORD, Michigan — A western Michigan school bus driver will pay a $575 penalty in connection to a crash that killed an 86-year-old motorist.

WOOD-TV reports (http://bit.ly/Z9A3lF ) 62-year-old Lee Ann Antuma was sentenced Thursday after pleading no contest to a misdemeanor count of a moving violation causing death. The former Rockford Public Schools bus driver was also ordered to perform community service.

Authorities say Antuma was driving a school bus in Cannon Township in February when she tried to turn left. She hit a car driven by Ione Potter of Cannonsburg. Potter died at a hospital.

Potter's family acknowledged that it was an accident and asked that Antuma not serve jail time.

Antuma's license is suspended through September 2015. She has a court case pending to try to get her license back.
