City's official Christmas tree to be raised above downtown Detroit's Campus Martius park

DETROIT — Downtown Detroit is preparing for the raising of the city's official Christmas tree.

A crane will lift the 60-foot-tall Norway spruce Wednesday afternoon to the top of Woodward Fountain.

The tree eventually will be wrapped in more than 19,000 energy-efficient, multi-colored LED lights and decorated with red and silver ornaments. The annual tree-lighting ceremony is scheduled for Nov. 20.

The display is presented by the DTE Energy Foundation.

An anonymous donor is supplying the tree which was felled in Cadillac, about 200 miles northwest of Detroit.
