BRIDGEPORT, West Virginia — Bridgeport's urban deer hunt last year had more than twice as many bow hunters as the number of deer killed.
Bridgeport Deputy Police Chief Randy Hartley says 118 hunters killed 52 deer within city limits during the 2014 hunt.
The program started in 2009 as a way to help reduce the city's deer population. The 2012 hunt saw the highest number of deer killed with 107.
The Exponent Telegram (http://bit.ly/1KGyvRQ) reports the city's urban deer hunt this year will run from Sept. 12 to Dec. 31. Permits are free but hunters must attend a training session this summer.
