EAST PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island — Police say a man has been arrested after a 40-year-old woman was stabbed at her apartment.
East Providence Police Chief Christopher Parella did not immediately release the woman's name or her condition after the Sunday morning attack.
The Providence Journal reports (http://bit.ly/1Iuy8e2) the man was taken into custody after he tried to swim across Bullocks Cove after the stabbing at Bullock's Point Village on Providence Avenue. The woman was taken to a hospital.
A neighbor, Sonya Pacheco, tells the Journal that she has known the woman for 12 years. Pacheco said the woman has two daughters, a son and a toddler grandson. Pacheco said one of the daughters was at home with her mother Sunday and escaped during the attack.
Neighbors said the area is quiet and residents know one another.
