PLYMOUTH MEETING, Pennsylvania — Authorities say a woman was found dead after a fire at a Philadelphia-area apartment complex that forced more than two dozen people from their homes.
Fire crews in Montgomery County were sent to the Plymouth Rock Apartments in Plymouth Meeting just before 10:30 p.m. Saturday.
Plymouth Township police said a woman trapped by the fire on her second-floor balcony was rescued by fire personnel using a ladder. She was treated for smoke inhalation.
After the flames were extinguished, police and fire officials found the body of a woman believed to have been a tenant of one of the apartments. Her name was not released pending notification of her relatives.
Authorities said the blaze destroyed 18 of the building's 24 apartments, and the Red Cross was assisting 26 displaced residents.
