NEWTON, North Carolina — Police say a high school counselor found dead in her Newton apartment was only wearing a pink pair of shorts turned inside out when her body was found.

Police released search warrants in the investigation into Maggie Daniels to media outlets Friday. The warrants say the mother of Daniels' boyfriend found her face down on her bedroom floor June 28.

The warrants say neighbors told police that the man charged with killing Daniels, 34-year-old Sharman Odom, was unusually interested in Daniels.

The documents say Daniels was found with blood pooling around her nose and had marks like she had been strangled on her shoulder. A broken full length mirror was found on her bed.

Odom has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder. Prosecutors want to seek the death penalty.
