IOWA CITY, Iowa — Police have reported a peaceful ending to a 3½-hour standoff with a man who said he had a gun in his Iowa City mobile home.

A city news release says officers were sent to the home a little after 8 p.m. Thursday to check a report about a man who had threatened to burn down his neighbor's home and had gone inside his own home to get a gun.

Officers initially weren't able to talk to the man, who wouldn't leave his home. He later called 911 and then made contact with a police negotiating team.

Police say the man left his home around 11:30 p.m. and was taken into custody. He was taken to a hospital for a mental health evaluation. His name hasn't been released.
