HEMPSTEAD, New York — A Long Island man traveling with his two young children has been charged with driving while intoxicated.

Anthony Martarana, of Kings Park, was arraigned on the charges on Monday.

Newsday (http://nwsdy.li/1KJ0UXT ) reports that a New York State trooper pulled him over for speeding on the Northern State Parkway on Sunday. Police say the officer reported the odor of alcohol while questioning him. Martarana's 3- and 5-year-old children were in the car.

Police say he failed sobriety tests and was charged with DWI. He was also charged with endangering the welfare of a child and traffic violations.

Martarana was held on $3,000 bond or $1,500 cash.

It wasn't immediately clear if he had a lawyer.
