RUTLAND, Vermont — Green Mountain Power says a Rutland solar project it is helping to build has been honored by the solar power industry.

Vermont's largest electric utility says the Stafford Hill Solar Farm has been awarded the 2015 Project of Distinction Award from the Solar Energy Industries Association and the Solar Electric Power Association

The award for GMP and the company groSolar was presented recently at a trade show.

The Stafford Hill Solar Farm is said to be the first project to establish a micro-grid powered solely by solar and battery storage, with no fossil fuels.

GMP says Stafford Hill power can be stored and used to power an emergency shelter at Rutland High School in the event of weather-related power outages.
