Car driver killed in collision with dump truck on Route 6 in Coventry

COVENTRY, Connecticut — One person has died and another is hospitalized after a car and dump truck collided head-on on Route 6 in Coventry.

Police say the crash happened shortly before 4:30 p.m. Friday near the intersection of South Street and created traffic problems for several hours.

Authorities say the driver of the car was flown by helicopter to Hartford Hospital and pronounced dead. The truck driver was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The drivers' names haven't been released.

The cause of the crash is under investigation. Coventry police are seeking witnesses to the accident.
