SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts — Law enforcement officials say two men wanted in connection with a gang-related killing in Springfield, Massachusetts, in July are now in custody.

The U.S. Marshals Service announced that 21-year-old Travis Perkins was arrested in Scranton, Pennsylvania, on Tuesday and that 21-year-old Brian Slater was arrested Wednesday in Springfield.

Both men are charged with murder in the death of 27-year-old Jermaine Cowell on July 19. Warrants had been issued for them in September. It wasn't immediately known who their attorneys are.

The Springfield Republican reported police found Cowell lying in the street, with gunshot wounds in his chest. His father said then that Cowell had left their apartment to walk to a corner store when he was killed. The father said Cowell had a 5-year-old son and was a massage therapist.
